Chhath Puja: Devotion to the Sun God

This exquisite Madhubani painting brings to life the spiritual grandeur of Chhath Puja, a sacred Indian festival dedicated to the Sun God, Surya. Painted with meticulous precision on handmade paper, the artwork features the iconic Sun deity presiding over devotees who offer prayers in the cool, blue waters. The contrast between the radiant yellow background, filled with intricate, textured patterns, and the calm, rhythmic blues of the water creates a visual representation of cosmic harmony.

Every element in this piece, from the lush green banana leaves to the traditional earthen lamps and sugar cane offerings, is rendered in bold, vibrant pigments characteristic of Mithila folk art. The detailed borders and the stylized figures reflect the deep-rooted cultural heritage of Bihar, turning this canvas into a narrative of faith, gratitude, and the enduring connection between humanity and the natural elements of the universe.
