Artwork Care Guide

Handcrafted traditional Indian paintings are living heritage. With mindful framing, lighting, and dusting, your collection will remain lustrous for generations.

3 Golden Rules for Handcrafted Art

1. Indirect LightingDisplay under warm LED lights (2700K–3500K) or diffuse natural light; avoid harsh direct UV rays.
2. Zero MoistureKeep away from direct steam, open monsoon windows, or damp wall seepage.
3. Dry Cleaning OnlyUse only dry, soft microfibers or camel-hair brushes; never spray liquids or solvents.

Paper & Silk Paintings (Madhubani, Warli, Mandala)

Recommended Care:
  • Frame using acid-free matting with UV-filtered acrylic or non-reflective glass.
  • Ensure a small 2–3mm gap between the glass and painting surface to allow the fibers to breathe.
  • Dust the outer frame lightly with a dry microfiber cloth.
Things to Avoid:
  • Never expose directly to harsh, uninterrupted midday sunlight or high moisture bathrooms.
  • Never use water, wet wipes, chemical cleaners, or detergents on the paint surface.

Canvas & Wood Paintings

Recommended Care:
  • Hang away from direct sunlight and away from kitchen or bathroom humidity.
  • Gently dust the surface with a soft, dry lint-free cloth or a feather duster.
  • Maintain a steady room temperature and avoid sudden temperature swings.
Things to Avoid:
  • Never fold, crease, or roll an unstretched canvas with the painted side inward.
  • Avoid damp walls or spots prone to seepage during the monsoon.

Tanjore Gold Foil Paintings (genuine 22K gold foil / gold-tone foil)

Recommended Care:
  • Display indoors, away from direct sunlight, to keep the gold relief looking its best.
  • Dust gently with a soft, dry brush or cloth; never rub the raised gold relief.
  • Store upright in a temperature-controlled indoor space if not on display.
Things to Avoid:
  • Do not hang directly next to air conditioners or vents with condensation.
  • Do not press, scratch, or apply pressure to the raised gold relief work.

Fabric, Silk, Cloth & Saree Paintings

Recommended Care:
  • Dry clean only; never machine wash a painted fabric or saree.
  • Store flat or loosely rolled, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Iron only on the reverse side, on a low setting, avoiding the painted area.
Things to Avoid:
  • Never soak, scrub, or use bleach or harsh detergents on the painted area.
  • Avoid folding along the painted design for long periods, to prevent cracking.

Painted Pots & Glass

Recommended Care:
  • Wipe gently with a dry or barely damp soft cloth; dry immediately.
  • Display away from direct sunlight to keep colours from fading.
  • Handle with both hands when moving or cleaning.
Things to Avoid:
  • Never submerge in water or use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
  • Avoid placing in direct sunlight for extended periods or in high-traffic areas where they could be knocked over.

Handcrafted Terracotta & Silk Thread Earrings

Recommended Care:
  • Store individually in separate pouches or ziplock bags away from dust.
  • Wear your jewelry after applying perfumes, hairsprays, and lotions, not before.
  • Keep silica gel packets in your jewelry box during the monsoon.
Things to Avoid:
  • Never submerge in water or wear while swimming or showering.
  • Avoid sleeping in clay or silk earrings to prevent structural pressure.
